Crystal Palace captain Dean Henderson admitted that his team missed an opportunity to climb further in the Premier League standings after a 0-0 draw with West Ham United. Henderson made several crucial saves in the match, helping his team achieve their 12th clean sheet of the season, as the game ended in a goalless draw.
However, Crystal Palace created more attacking opportunities, with Brennan Johnson coming close to scoring twice in the first half. Substitute Ismaila Sarr scored late in the game, but the goal was disallowed after a handball by Jean-Philippe Mateta during the attack.
Dean Henderson said after the match that the result was frustrating, but he still believed the team was on a good track and could continue to progress in the league. He said, "We are indeed disappointed. I think the lads gave it their all. It was obvious that some players on the field were exhausted."
“We did fight until the very last moment and were always trying to win, but we couldn’t achieve that today. We kept a clean sheet, which is a positive thing. We will continue to move forward and prepare for the upcoming key matches. Frankly, we crave victory and hope to close the gap with the teams ahead of us.”
"Overall, we have done our best. We have another game later in the week, so playing three games a week is definitely not easy. We missed some good opportunities in that game. We were hoping to continue to improve our ranking in the league, but the opportunity still exists. Hopefully, we can win the rescheduled game and move forward."
In the first half, Dean Henderson made a crucial save, successfully thwarting a shot from the in-form defender Constantinos Mavropanos, which was one of the most spectacular saves of the match. It's worth noting that Mavropanos scored twice in his previous match for West Ham United.
The tall center-back headed the ball towards goal, but the Crystal Palace captain reacted quickly, making a brilliant save to keep the score level. Dean Henderson added: "Objectively speaking, Constantinos Mavropanos leaped over the defender with great power, and afterwards I didn't really see the ball's trajectory clearly. I just instinctively reached out and blocked it; that's my job, so I'm very happy to have made that save."
