In the 43rd round of the 2025/26 Championship season, Frank Lampard's Coventry City managed a 1-1 draw away to Blackburn Rovers. They currently sit comfortably at the top of the table with 86 points from 25 wins, 11 draws, and 7 losses, securing their return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence with three rounds to spare.
Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers traded attacks in the first half, but neither could change the score. In the 13th minute, Ryan Allebiosu delivered a cross from the right flank, and Yuki Ohashi's header was comfortably saved by Carl Rushworth. In the 26th minute, Efron Mason-Clark held off his opponent on the left wing and laid the ball back, where Jack Rudoni broke into the box and fired a shot that went just wide. In the 44th minute, Milan van Eivic delivered a cross, and Mason-Clark's shot inside the box again went wide of the left post.
The second half began with both sides switching sides. In the 54th minute, Blackburn Rovers broke the deadlock: Allebio Su's long-range shot forced Frank Onyeka to make a clearance error, and Morishita Ryuya immediately fired a powerful shot to score the first goal.
Despite conceding a goal, Coventry City didn't panic and quickly launched a counter-attack against Blackburn. In the 70th minute, Roman Ezequiel's long diagonal pass from the right wing found Rudoni in the penalty area, but his header hit the left post. In the 84th minute, Victor Top's free-kick from the right side of the field was headed in by Bobby Thomas at the near post to equalize. Neither side managed to score again, and the final score remained 1-1.
