Toulouse officially announced on Wednesday that they will part ways with manager Carles Martinez Novell, whose term is expiring, this summer.
The 41-year-old Carles Martínez hails from Catalonia and worked early in his coaching career in youth development at Granollers, Espanyol, Barcelona, Raijan, and Kuwait. He was appointed analyst and assistant coach for Toulouse in December 2022 and helped the team win their first-ever French Cup title the following year.
In July 2023, Martinez succeeded Philippe Montagnier as manager of Toulouse. To date, he has managed 118 matches for Toulouse, with a record of 42 wins, 30 draws, and 46 losses.
Regarding Martinez's departure, Toulouse president Olivier Klorec stated: "First of all, on behalf of Toulouse Football Club, I would like to express my gratitude to Carles. In addition to his outstanding achievements at the club, he also had a profound impact on our daily lives and work patterns. He always demonstrated a high level of dedication and true loyalty in his work."
"Our decision today is in line with the club's long-term plan, but it does not diminish our respect and recognition of his work. I sincerely wish him all the best in his future career and life."
Toulouse sporting director Victor Bezzani later added: "I sincerely thank Carles for his three years at the club. During this time, we established a mutually respectful and productive working relationship. I wish him all the best in his future career."
Martinez himself stated: "After three wonderful years at Toulouse, we have decided to part ways at the end of this season. It has been a great honor for me to represent Toulouse. During this time, I learned and practiced the club's values and participated in the team's development."
“I sincerely thank the club president, sporting director, and all the staff, especially my coaching team and players – we have shared many unforgettable moments together. I also want to express my special thanks to the fans for their continued support and to the city for the warm welcome I received from the very first day I took office. I will leave with wonderful memories that will forever remain in my heart.”
According to French media outlet L'Equipe, Martinez's next destination is highly likely to be Girona, currently ranked 15th in La Liga. RMC Sport also understands that Lorient manager Olivier Pantaloni, Queens Park Rangers manager Julian Stefan, and Auxerre manager Christophe Pellissier are all considered leading candidates for the Toulouse managerial position.
