LOL official: Hextech treasure chest will return next week, and the price of all hero blue essence will be reduced by 50%

The League of Legends development team announced today that Hextech chests will return in next week's 25.05 version. At that time, players can get up to 10 Hextech chests and keys per stage.

As game revenue faces challenges as skin sales decline, League of Legends originally planned to cancel Hextech chest rewards in the first theme season "Welcome to Noxus" in 2025. The adjustment was intended to reduce the number of free skins obtained, thereby ensuring the sustainability of the business model, but it caused strong dissatisfaction among players because the number of ways to obtain hero skins for free was greatly reduced. Under the protest of players, League of Legends finally announced the withdrawal of the decision to cancel the Hextech chest rewards.

According to the arrangement of Andre van Roon, head of the League of Legends studio, and Paul Beleza, executive producer, there will be two ways to obtain Hextech chests starting from version 25.05. One is to obtain through the free pass: players can obtain 8 Hextech chests through the free pass in each stage, and this reward will replace the seasonal skins and mysterious rare skins. In order to free up space in the user interface, some rewards (such as blue essence) will be combined and adjusted, but the total amount of blue essence that can be obtained through the pass remains unchanged.

Another way is to get it through the honor system. The honor system is a social behavior reward mechanism in League of Legends that aims to encourage players to maintain good gaming behavior. Andre van Roon and Paul Belleza said that players can get an additional 2 Hextech treasure chests through the honor system in each stage.

The League of Legends development team also said that the price of blue essence for all heroes will be reduced by 50% starting from version 25.05. This move is intended to help new players expand their hero pool, improve the playability of the game, and make it easier to get started.
