Djurgården announced on their official website on Wednesday that Metz's Sweden international winger Joel Asoro has returned to the club on-loan.
According to Djurgården's official statement, Asoro will play for the club on0loan until the end of the season, and the loan agreement does not include a buy option.
This marks Asoro's return to the Swedish Allsvenskan powerhouse after three years. His impressive performances at Djurgården back then was the reason which earned him a move to Metz.
After completing his transfer produres, Asoro, who was interviewed by the Djurgården official website again, said, "It feels great to be back here, and I'm very familiar with everything at Djurgården."
"I hadn't been to the new Kaknäs (Djurgården's new training ground) before, and it's really professional. It's like the standards abroad; you can recover immediately after training, soak in the pool, or do whatever you want. It looks fantastic, and I'm looking forward to starting training."
About Joel Asoro
The 26-year-old Asoro was born on April 27, 1999, in Stockholm, Sweden. He is 1.77 meters tall and primarily plays as a right winger, but can also play as a left winger or center forward. He holds dual Swedish and Nigerian citizenship.
Asoro joined the youth academy of non-league club Hanninge at a young age, and at 11 transferred to the Brommapojkarna youth academy, which had nurtured renowned Swedish internationals such as Albin Ekdal, John Guidetti, Victor Gyökeres, Dejan Kulusevski, and Ludwig Augustinsson.
During his time at the Brommapojkarna youth academy team, Asoro's impressive performances attracted interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Juventus. However, seeking a more guaranteed promotion pathway to the first-team, he ultimately chose to join Sunderland's youth academy in 2015.
The following August, Asoro completed his Sunderland first-team debut by coming on as a substitute against Middlesbrough, breaking the record to become the youngest Swedish player to debut in the Premier League.
In July 2018, Asoro transferred to Swansea City for £2 million.
In August of the following year, Asoro was loaned-out to Groningen.
In September 2020, Asoro was loaned-out to Genoa, but he did not get any playing time during this loan spell.
In February of the following year, Asoro joined Djurgården for €400,000.
During his two-and-a-half-year spell at Djurgården, Assolo's high goal-scoring efficiency in the UEFA Conference League attracted the attention of Metz.
In August 2023, Asoro joined Metz for €1.2 million.
Since joining Metz, Asoro has so far made 53 appearances for the Ligue 1 club in all competitions, scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists.
