Borussia Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken confirmed on Wednesday that they are assessing the possibility of England winger Jaden Sancho returning to the club.
The 26-year-old Sancho has played for Borussia Dortmund twice in his career, making a total of 158 appearances, scoring 53 goals and providing 67 assists, and winning the German Cup and the German Super Cup with the team.
However, Sancho's performance has fallen short of expectations since joining Manchester United in July 2021 for £73 million. To date, he has made 83 appearances for Manchester United, contributing only 12 goals and 6 assists.
In an effort to regain his competitive form, Sancho embarked on a nomadic career starting in January 2024. He was loaned by Manchester United to Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, contributing 9 goals and 16 assists in 93 appearances across all competitions, and winning the European Championship once with his clubs.
According to a previous report by Sky Sports Germany, Borussia Dortmund has already begun discussions about bringing Jadon Sancho back. The player himself is also open to returning to Dortmund on a pay cut; his contract with Manchester United was originally set to expire this summer.
When asked about the rumors by Bild, Ricken did not deny them. He simply stated, "We are currently scouting many players and conducting in-depth evaluations of them. We will determine whether they can improve the team. Jaden is one of them."
While confirming his interest in Sancho, Ricken also responded directly to other transfer rumors. Regarding the rumors of signing Hoffenheim striker Fiesnick Aslani, Ricken remained indifferent: "We have Serju Guirassy and Fabio Silva in that position, and I think our current squad is already excellent."
He also decisively refuted the rumors of loaning Nick Waltmard from Newcastle United: "This is the first time I've heard of it, it's completely unfounded. Similarly, we already have two players in our team who fit the characteristics of a center forward."
