On the eve of their UEFA quarter-final first leg match against Fiorentina, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner gave an interview, focusing on the team's preparations after the international break and reminding the team to be wary of their opponents potentially displaying even greater strength.
After a 21-day absence from the pitch, Crystal Palace has regrouped its players. Glasner praised the current training atmosphere as amazing. Speaking about the returning national team players, he noted their varied circumstances: Lacroix made his French debut, while Johnson and others suffered the disappointment of failing to qualify.
Glasner used this to motivate the whole team: "Football is always full of ups and downs. Now is the most crucial moment of the season. In a career, you don't get the chance to play in the quarterfinals of European competitions every year. Everyone must give it their all."
Speaking about their opponents, Glasner emphasized that they should not be misled by Fiorentina's somewhat lackluster performance against Verona at the weekend. He personally studied several matches and believes that their opponents displayed an extremely high level of play against Inter Milan.
"I expect to face a stronger Fiorentina team," Glasner revealed, adding that he had even exchanged text messages with his former protégé, Pongracic, who now plays for the opposing team.
Therefore, Glasner warned the team that Fiorentina has extremely strong tactical discipline and is exceptionally efficient, adept at seizing upon mistakes and striking decisively, and that Crystal Palace must maintain absolute focus at home.
