Carrick praises Manchester United's creativity after defeating Brentford.

Manchester United secured a 2-1 victory over Brentford in a key match of the 34th round of the 2025/26 Premier League season, thanks to goals from Casemiro and Sheshko. Carrick stated that his team started exceptionally well, displaying great creativity and excellent rhythm.

Manchester United took a corner in the 11th minute. Maguire headed the ball across, and Casemiro headed it in to give United a 1-0 lead. In the 43rd minute, Bruno Fernandes dribbled into the penalty area and crossed the ball to Shesko, who fired a shot into the net to extend United's lead over Brentford to 2-0.

In the 87th minute, Rice Nelson passed the ball to Matthias Jensen outside the penalty area, who then fired a long-range shot into the net, helping Brentford pull one back to 2-1.

Manchester United ultimately defeated Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford. With their second consecutive win, United now sit third in the league table with 61 points.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick said: "This victory is very important. We expected it to be a tough game. They are a very good and threatening team that will keep putting pressure on us and challenging us. We knew we had to play at a high level, and I think the first 20 to 25 minutes were one of our best starts of the season. We were very creative in attack and played at a fast pace."

"The players performed positively overall, formed a good understanding through the middle, and found Bruno Fernandes behind the opponent's defense on several occasions. We had chances to score one or two more goals during that period, but we also have to give credit to the opponents. They then gradually got into the game, and we made some adjustments at halftime."

Carrick noted, "It was a very open game, and I think we started very well and should have scored at least one more goal, or even more. But we have to acknowledge our opponents; they are a very strong team with a variety of attacking options. Brentford have rarely lost recently and are in good form overall. We also know they are a very tough opponent."

“We made some adjustments in the second half, and maintained good control for most of the game. I think the team’s fighting spirit and commitment were outstanding. We could have scored more goals, but at this stage of the season, the most important thing is the result. Our goal at the time was to stabilize the situation, and the second goal came. There are some positions where we need to do better, which is entirely a tactical decision.”

In addition, Carrick said, "This is a very difficult league to get results in, and it's very satisfying that we've achieved so many victories. After the match against Leeds United, the players showed great fighting spirit and a good mentality, which is the result of everyone's joint efforts."

“We played good football and maintained a cohesive defensive posture, making several successful blocks. The opponent constantly created threats from all angles, and we had to involve everyone in defense, and everyone did their part.”
