According to multiple British media outlets, including The Daily Telegraph, the Daily Mail, and Sky Sports, Arsenal are interested in signing 26-year-old Atletico Madrid striker Julian Álvarez this summer. However, they may face competition from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
The news was also confirmed by Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone. When asked about the rumors of Julian Álvarez potentially joining Arsenal, he replied: "It's perfectly normal for a player as good as Julian Álvarez to be pursued by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona at the same time. It's normal because he is indeed very good."
As for the player's own intentions, Simeone only said: "I cannot speculate on Julian Alvarez's thoughts."
Since joining Atletico Madrid in August 2024 for €75 million, Alvarez has quickly become an indispensable pillar of the team's attack. To date, he has made 104 appearances for Atletico, scoring 48 goals and providing 17 assists.
Alvarez is no stranger to the Premier League. Before joining Atletico Madrid, he played for Manchester City for two seasons, during which he made 103 appearances across all competitions, contributing 36 goals and 19 assists, and winning one Champions League title, one Club World Cup title, two Premier League titles, one UEFA Super Cup title, one FA Cup title, and one Community Shield title with the team.
Alvarez's consistent performance in attack has successfully attracted Arsenal's interest. According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal staff conducted a comprehensive assessment of his injury history, physical indicators, and attacking performance as early as January, concluding that he perfectly fits Arsenal's tactical requirements. The Daily Telegraph also understands that Arsenal has shown strong interest in Alvarez since last year, and this interest remains unchanged.
However, Atletico Madrid currently has no intention of selling Alvarez. Even if they eventually agree to let him go, their asking price will be at least £130 million.
Regardless of his future plans this summer, Alvarez's primary task remains helping Atlético Madrid win the Champions League. Following that, he will represent Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
As a key member of the Albiceleste, Alvarez has won two Copa America titles and one World Cup with the team. During this period, he made 51 appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing 4 assists.
