The Athletic's resident renowned English Liverpool team correspondent James Pearce, exclusively reported on Tuesday that Liverpool have no intention of signing England international winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United to replace Egypt international legend Mohamed Salah, who is on the verge of leaving.
According to Pearce, Liverpool are aware of the player, who played for their youth academy as well as being a diehard Liverpool fan since childhood are planning desire to leave. However, the club has no intention of joining the Gordon's transfer battle — not in the past, not now, and probably not in the future.
Furthermore, Liverpool believe that Newcastle United's asking price of over £80 million for Gordon is unrealistic, further strengthening their resolve not to consider signing the player.
This season, although Gordon has scored 10 goals in 12 UEFA Champions League appearances, four of those goals came against Qarabag, and most of them were penalties.
In the league, he has only scored 6 goals in 26 appearances, a figure that Liverpool scouts consider identical to that of its Netherlands international winger Cody Gakpo, further solidifying the Reds' belief that Gordon is not worth pursuing.
Pearce added that at this stage, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all rumoured to be vying for Gordon's signature this summer, while Liverpool's primary focus is on two players of African descent.
Liverpool considers RB Leipzig's wonderkid Yan Diomande as one of their top potential targets, but his €100 million asking price cause the club to reconsider.
The other player is Hoffenheim's rising star Bazoumana Touré.
The Reds will only consider signing Bradley Barcola if Paris Saint-Germain is willing to sell the France international player.
However, it's still too early to discuss these issues, as Liverpool won't be overly focused on finding a successor for Mohamed Salah until the end of the season and the club has secured Champions League qualification for next season.

In late January 2023, Gordon to moved to Newcastle United for £40 million.
In February of this year, Gordon scored four goals in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16s play-off match against Qarabağ, breaking the record to become the first player in Newcastle's team history to score four goals in a single Champions League match.
Since joining the Magpies, Gordon has made 152 appearances for the new Premier League giants in all competitions so far, scoring 39 goals and providing 28 assists, where he has also helped the club win the Carabao Cup once, ending a 70-year major domestic titles drought.
