Levi Colwell: This goal means a lot to me

Levi Colwell opened his Chelsea account this season with a fine goal as Chelsea won 4-0 against Southampton. The centre-back was delighted to have capped a fine victory for his side after Christopher Nkunku broke the deadlock.

Levi Colwell, who currently plays for Chelsea, was born and raised in Southampton before moving to the Chelsea Academy Under-9s team. Colwell has come close to scoring several times this season and when the moment finally came, it was all the sweeter against Southampton.

Levi Colwell said: "I've missed some chances this season so it feels good to score. Southampton is the team I played for when I was young and it's also the city I live in. I have several friends who are Southampton fans, so this goal means a lot to me."

"The last few games have been difficult so it was important for us to win them. To get those goals and keep those clean sheets, it was all about boosting our confidence. I hope we can carry that confidence with us until the next game."

"We all trust each other and believe that victory will come. Every team will go through difficult times and we have to overcome difficulties and get out of the predicament. Fortunately, we did it, which gave us a lot of confidence."

Chelsea's more youthful players also played an important role against Southampton, with Tyreek George and Josh Acheampong both featuring, and Levi Colwell praised their contributions.

Levi Colwell said: "It's great to have these boys here. I'm a student at the academy myself, and I know what it means to them. They performed very well on the field and I'm very happy for them. I hope they can continue in this state and move towards the right goal."
