Nice announced on Thursday that it has renewed Jonathan Clos' contract. The new contract extends the original expiry date of June this year by two years, until June 30, 2028.
The 33-year-old Klose came through the Strasbourg youth academy and made his professional debut for Quevelli-Roen in Ligue 2 on September 8, 2017. He then played for Bielefeld, Lens, and Marseille, making a total of 62 Bundesliga 2 matches, 6 Champions League matches, 12 Europa League matches, and 131 Ligue 1 matches.
In July 2024, Klose joined Nice from Marseille for €5 million. He primarily plays as a right winger at Nice, making 60 appearances to date, scoring 4 goals and providing 14 assists.
As for the national team level, Klose made his debut for France on March 25, 2022, and has since contributed 2 goals and 2 assists in 14 appearances across all competitions.
When Klose signed his contract extension, Nice had gone six league games without a win and were currently 13th in Ligue 1 with only 18 points. They were also struggling in the Europa League, losing all six of their matches and sitting at the bottom of their group.
Despite this, Klose remains confident about Nice's future. In his contract extension statement, he firmly stated: "I will fully commit to the work already underway with the team and strive to reverse the current slump. I want to demonstrate my desire and determination through action. Nice deserves better performances, and the team deserves better results; I firmly believe this."
