In the 27th round of the 2025-26 Premier League season, Manchester United narrowly defeated Everton 1-0 away from home.
Thanks to Benjamin Sesco's decisive counter-attack and goalkeeper Senne Lamenz's solid performance, manager Michael Carrick led his team to a successful away victory, securing all three points.
In a post-match interview, Carrick described the victory as "a great victory" and highly praised the players' resilience and team spirit of sacrifice in the face of adversity.
Carrick specifically praised the team's defense in the final stages of the match: "The players showed a tremendous spirit of sacrifice and a willingness to give to each other. Everyone did their job, defended the penalty area tenaciously, and ultimately secured a valuable clean sheet."
Thirteen days have passed since the team's last match. Regarding how to overcome the fluctuations in form caused by the long break, Carrick admitted that playing away against Everton is never easy. He stated that although the match itself was challenging at times, the whole team maintained good form in training and ultimately persevered.
Despite the away victory, Carrick remained clear-headed. He pointed out that the team is still in its initial and adjustment phase, and it's unrealistic to expect everything to be perfect.
“We had a great night, but we also saw a lot of areas for improvement,” Carrick concluded. “We’ll review this game over the next few days and try to find ways to win in Sunday’s match.”
