Global Esports Tour Rio 2024 (GET Rio) has owed participating teams a total of $210,000 in prize money and travel expenses for more than a year..

Dust2 Brasil, a Brazilian Counter Strike 2 news website, broke the news on Wednesday that the Global Esports Tour Rio 2024 (GET Rio) has owed participating teams a total of $210,000 in prize money and travel expenses for more than a year.

According to insiders, more and more officials and sponsors of affected teams have expressed concerns about this unresolved issue.

Currently, among the participating teams, FURIA, Imperial, and mibr have all written to the organizer, the Brazilian Confederation of Games and Esports (CBGE), and have contacted its president Leonardo Fontes.

At the same time, the Brazilian government is ready to intervene at any time. The official government spokesperson said that they will be ready to handle all requests received, will be openly and actively respond to inquiries from affected teams.

In addition, the Brazilian Confederation of Games and Esports (CBGE) also reiterated that it will honour its promise to pay bonuses to ensure that the affected teams are satisfied.

Dust2 Brasil also added that the reporter had tried to contact the Global Esports Federation (GEF), which owns the GET event brand and collected a 2.5 million reais licensing fee, but the organization had not responded by press time.

In fact, this is not the first time that GET Rio has been involved in a scandal. As early as last June, two months after the end of the event, Dust 2 Brasil had already revealed that CBGE was suspected of using the event to make money and was suspected of corruption.

Since then, the Rio Anti-Corruption Bureau has even intervened in the investigation, requiring CGBE to produce financial statements and clearly explain why they received nearly $185,000 in subsidies from the Rio local government, but GET Rio still frequently encountered serious technical problems during the tournament the schedule was constantly changed, and the competition caused noise nuisance to nearby residents late at night.

However, CGBE and the person in charge of the GET Rio tournament were reluctant to cooperate with the Rio Anti-Corruption Bureau's investigation.

GET Rio was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from April 18 to 20, 2024. On April 21, the event also hosted a women's Counter Strike tournament organized by the Brazilian National Sports Administration.

At the time, the prize money for the two events was $200,000 and $10,000 respectively.

According to documents obtained by foreign media through the "Information Access Law", CBGE was supposed to use part of the 4.5 million reais received from the Superintendência de Desportos do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (SUDERJ) to pay the prize money, but so far, the authorities have been exposed to have not paid a penny.
