Valladolid coach Diego Coca is sacked due to poor performance

Real Valladolid released a statement on Monday announcing that Diego Coca will no longer be the head coach of the first team. His position will be temporarily taken over by the reserve team coach Alvaro Rubio until further notice.

According to AS, Relevo and other media reports, Valladolid made this decision after the team lost 0-4 to Sevilla last weekend. The statement read: "The club thanks Coca and his coaching team for their contributions during their time as Valladolid coach and wishes them all the best in their future personal and professional careers."

Diego Coca, 52, is from Argentina and has coached 14 teams including CAI, Godoy Cruz, Gimnasia de La Plata, Santos Laguna, Hurricane Atlético, Defence and Justice, Competizione Avellaneda, Millionaires, Tijuana, Rosario Central, Atlas, Tigres UANL, Mexico National Team, etc. His coaching experience is mainly concentrated in Central and South America. Taking over Valladolid at the end of December 2024 is his first coaching in the top five leagues.

However, under the coaching of Diego Coca, Valladolid has only won one game in the last eight rounds, and lost 2-3 to Spanish third division team Ourense in the King's Cup and was eliminated in the round of 16. They have not won since January 11, and currently have only 15 points and are ranked last in La Liga, still 8 points away from the relegation zone.

Due to his poor coaching record, Diego Coca quickly lost the trust of the club's top management, players and even fans. He followed in the footsteps of Paulo Pezzolano and became the second coach of Valladolid to be sacked this season just two months after taking office.
