Gasperini hopes Roma will focus more on the transfer market.

Roma will host newly promoted Pisa in the 32nd round of the 2025/26 Serie A season. Gasperini stated in a press conference that the team must figure out what kind of players they want to bring in, or need to set different transfer targets.

In their last match, Roma, after falling behind, relied on goals from Gianluca Mancini and Lorenzo Pellegrini to ultimately lose 2-5 to Inter Milan at the San Siro. After a run of 1 win, 1 draw, and 3 losses in their last 5 matches, Roma currently sits in 6th place in the standings with 54 points, 4 points behind 4th-placed Como.

Roma coach Gasperini said, "I think we should continue to work hard to improve the team's strength. Before considering letting go of existing players, we must first figure out what kind of players we want to bring in."

“This has always been the key. Of course, we all wish we had players like Messi or Ronaldo, but the reality is that we must understand our own situation, and the goal should be to continuously improve the team’s level over time. I’ve been looking at the transfer market data, and about 30 players have joined Roma, but right now we probably only have 4 or 5 players who can actually play.”

Gasperini said, "I won't blame anyone, but perhaps we need to set different transfer targets. In Rome, I've seen some very good players and teams, and the fans can recognize truly talented players. I prefer this approach rather than bringing in 30 players. Of course, not everyone will agree with this idea."

"This is a choice the club has to make. Perhaps they could consider signing high-salary players, which they have done in the past, but maybe the current owners are unwilling to go down that path again. Another option is to focus on developing very young players, but I don't know if a club like Roma can accept that, because when there are too many young players on the field, the team's goals and ambitions may be lowered."

In addition, Gasperini also said, "There is another ideal option, which is to target players like Malen and Wesley Franka, at that level of transfer fees and wages."
