Augsburg completes contract extension with Dutch center back Jeffrey Gouweleeuw..


Augsburg announced on its official website on Sunday that the club has renewed the contract of its Dutch center back Jeffrey Gouweleeuw.


According to Augsburg's official statement, Gouweleeuw has signed on a new short-term a-year-and-four-month deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2026.


After completing his contract extension procedures, Gouweleeuw, who was interviewed by Augsburg's official website again, said: "I have always said that my family and I are at home in Augsburg, so I am very happy that I will continue to wear the Augsburg jersey and welcome my tenth season in Augsburg."


"It is not common for a player to play for the same club for so long now. This is very special for me and makes me very proud."


About Geoffrey Gouweleeuw


Gouweleeuw, 33, was born on July 10, 1991 in Heemskerk, the Netherlands. He is 1.87 meters tall and primarily plays as a center back and can also play as a defensive midfielder.


Gouweleeuw joined the youth academy of Heemskerk non-league club ADO '20 since he was young. In 2006, he joined the Heerenveen youth academy and completed his Heerenveen first-team debut in April 2011.


In July 2013, Gouweleeuw moved to AZ Alkmaar for €1 million.


During his two-and-a-half-year spell at AZ, Gouweleeuw attracted the attention of Olympiacos for his outstanding performances.


In January 2016, Gouweleeuw joined Augsburg for 2.5 million.


Since becoming a member of Augsburg, Gouweleeuw has played 261 times for the Bundesliga club in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 11 assists.
