Valve announced on its official website on Monday that it has made changes to the Counter Strike 2 VRS ranking system that has been criticized by players recently.
According to Valve's official statement, after these changes, all forfeiting behaviours will no longer be ignored, but will be recorded as a loss for players as usual. This change is also aimed at those players and teams who abuse this mechanism without any sanctions.
At the same time, in order to prevent disputes during the competition, all data accumulated by players during all tournaments will not be recorded immediately, but will be recorded after the entire tournaments is over.
This is also to prevent cases like the German powerhouse GamerLegion (GL) complaining about the unfair incident that they were forced to wait until other teams were eliminated after they won the required prize money earnings in the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025, but were not being accounted, which caused them to miss out on an invite to BLAST Open.
Additionally, instead of the previous mechanism where each team had to play 10 matches before being ranked, after this change, each team will automatically be ranked after only 5 matches.
Finally, the nominal "club share" revenue (which ESL distinguishes from prize money in its events) has been incorporated into the mechanism, effectively combining the two prize categories.
