Romano: Manchester United is interested in signing Osimhen, but whether it can be done is subject to budget constraints

Manchester United are interested in signing 26-year-old Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer, Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday.

Manchester United is in a slump this season, ranking 14th in the Premier League with only 33 points after 27 rounds. The lack of forwards is considered an important factor in Manchester United's poor performance: two center forwards Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hoylen were involved in 4 and 6 goals respectively, accounting for a small part of the team's 33 goals.

In order to strengthen its offensive firepower, Manchester United has listed Victor Osimhen as one of its potential signings this summer. Osimhen has played for Wolfsburg, Charleroi and Lille, and joined Napoli for 77.5 million euros in 2020. He played for Napoli for four seasons, contributing 76 goals and 12 assists in 133 games in all competitions, helping the team win the 2022/23 Serie A championship.

In September 2024, Osimhen was loaned to Galatasaray by Napoli. So far, he has made 26 appearances for Galatasaray, scoring 20 goals and providing 5 assists.

Although Manchester United is very interested in Osimhen, whether the deal can be finally reached still depends on Manchester United's transfer budget this summer. Romano revealed in a podcast show "Market Madness" on GiveMeSport that Osimhen is open to joining Manchester United, but salary will be one of the decisive factors. His current annual salary at Galatasaray is about 12 million euros, and whether Manchester United can afford this salary remains in doubt.

According to TMW, Osimhen's contract with Napoli includes a buyout clause worth 75 million euros and pounds. The news has been confirmed by Napoli's sports director Giovanni Manna, who said in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports: "Victor Osimhen's contract does have a buyout clause. We are working hard to find a solution as soon as possible to avoid repeating the mistakes of last summer (with Chelsea). "

Romano went on to add that United are also keeping an eye on 26-year-old Swedish striker Viktor Zikeres, who was a key player for Ruben Amorim when he coached Sporting Lisbon. However, United's final decision on signings is still subject to the club's transfer budget this summer.
