Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey joins Ipswich Town on loan until the end of the season

Ipswich announced on Sunday that they have loaned Atlanta defender Ben Godfrey until June 30, 2025. It is not yet known whether there is a buyout clause in the contract.

“It’s been an exciting few days,” said Ben Godfrey after signing. “I’m delighted to have signed and can’t wait to meet my teammates and get started.”

The 26-year-old Ben Godfrey came from York's youth training and made his debut for the first team in the English League Two on October 11, 2014. He then played for Norwich, Shrewsbury and Everton, during which time he represented Norwich and Everton played 112 Premier League games.

In July 2024, Godfrey joined Atlanta from Everton for 12 million euros. He has had very few opportunities to play in Atlanta and has only appeared as a substitute five times so far.

Ipswich has not had a good record this season. After 20 rounds, it ranks third from the bottom in the Premier League with 3 wins, 7 draws, 10 losses and 16 points. However, Godfrey still has confidence in Ipswich's attitude and potential. : “It was great talking to the manager (Kieran McKenna) and I’m really excited about the opportunity to work under him. I watched a lot of the games in the first half of the season and I can see that the team is very united and the players are very motivated. They all do their best to achieve their goals.”

“So far this season, I haven’t played as many games as I would have liked. But I feel like I’m ready to contribute to the team and I’m looking forward to playing as soon as possible.”
