Tottenham Hotspur announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has triggered the contract extension clause of its captain, South Korea international striker Son Heung-min.
According to Spurs' official statement, Son Heung-min's contract has been automatically extended for one year, and his new contract will now until the summer of 2026.
About Son Heung-min
Son Heung-min, 32, was born on July 8, 1992 in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea. He is 1.83 meters tall and primarily plays as a left winger, but can also play as a center forward. His father, Son Woong-jung, is also a former South Korea international forward. He is currently the founder and coach of the football academy he opened in South Korea. His brother, Son Heung-yun, also formerly played as a forward and is now retired.
Son Heung-min fell in love with football under the influence of his father since he was a child. He joined FC Seoul's youth academy in 2008 and then Hamburg's youth academy the following year, before completing his Hamburg first-team debut in a DFB-Pokal match in October 2010.
During his three-year spell at Hamburg, Son Heung-min quickly became the fifth Korean player to score double digits in the European league with his outstanding performances.
In July 2013, Son Heung-min transferred to Bayer Leverkusen for €10 million.
During his two-year spell at Die Werkself, Son Heung-min continued his high goalscoring efficiency, which attracted the attention of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
In August 2015, Son Heung-min joined Tottenham Hotspur for £22 million.
Since becoming a member of Spurs, Son Heung-min has played 431 times for the Premier League giants in all competitions, scoring 169 goals and assisting 90 times, during which he has reached the UEFA Champions League final once and the Carabao Cup final once with the club.
