Carver excited about George Hurst's call-up to Scotland squad

Ipswich Town striker George Hurst has been called up for the Scotland national team for their Nations League play-off against Greece. The England Under-20 striker has switched his national team affiliation to join Steve Clarke's Scotland squad.

In addition to Hurst, the Scottish team has recruited two new faces - Lennon Miller and James Wilson. Scotland assistant coach John Carver said that the addition of these three people will bring new vitality to the team.

Hurst, whose affiliation was changed by his grandfather, was expected to be included in Clark's initial squad on Tuesday, but his inclusion was delayed due to procedural issues.

Carver is excited about Hurst's joining. He said: "We have been keeping an eye on George and he is the player we need. When we made an invitation to him, he was very happy to play for Scotland."

"We have always stressed that we want to recruit players who really want to play for Scotland. Although his father David Hurst played for England, George chose Scotland and that is exactly the type of player we need."

The 26-year-old Hurst has performed steadily in the Premier League this season. Not only did he score his second Premier League goal of the season against Nottingham Forest last weekend, he also scored two goals in the FA Cup, demonstrating his excellent offensive ability.

Scotland will travel to Greece on Thursday and return to Hampden Park for the second leg on Sunday. The addition of Hurst, Miller and Wilson will undoubtedly add more tactical options and vitality to the team.
