Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen said on Tuesday that he expects to leave Manchester United when his contract expires this summer.
Christian Eriksen, 33, mainly plays as a central midfielder, but can also play as a front midfielder, left midfielder and right midfielder. He came from the Ajax youth training. After completing his professional debut in January 2010, he played for Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Brentford and other teams. He also briefly bid farewell to the field due to cardiac arrest during the 2020 European Cup.
In July 2022, Eriksson joined Manchester United as a free agent. So far, he has played 99 times for Manchester United, scored 7 goals and provided 17 assists, and won the FA Cup and the English League Cup with the team. However, Eriksson has played a total of 27 games in all lines this season, which is significantly less than in the past. His future whereabouts have therefore attracted much attention.
In an interview with Danish media TV 2 Sport, Eriksson said frankly that it was unlikely that he would renew his contract with Manchester United: "I have not received any notification. In this case, I can only assume that the cooperation is about to end. This is my understanding. Everyone knows that my contract is about to expire, so I estimate there is only one result."
"I have had a very good time at Manchester United, despite a turbulent period. I will finish my journey at Manchester United first and then consider my future."
"I haven't thought about it too much. I think I'm ready to look for new opportunities. But what exactly it will be, I haven't decided yet."
“I don’t have any particular goal in mind, so I’ll choose the option that works best for me and my family.”
Eriksson went on to add that his next stop would not be England, and he was not considering returning to Denmark or going to the United States: "I have no intention of staying in England. I will not go to the United States either - my family does not want to move so far away. We tend to stay in Europe, but it is too early to return to Denmark at the moment."
"I think I still have a few years left to compete abroad. Returning to Denmark usually means focusing more on family and taking a step back from my career, but I have no plans to do that yet."
When asked if the high level of attention he would attract in Denmark was holding him back from returning, Eriksson responded: "It has nothing to do with that. It's just about football and the stage I'm in. I've been playing abroad for many years and returning home would be like moving to a completely strange country."
