Despite Liverpool being linked with a move for a new left-back this summer, Andy Robertson insists his time at Anfield is far from over. The 31-year-old Scotland international has been a regular at left-back for the Reds since joining from Hull City in 2017. However, there have been recent reports that Liverpool are looking for his successor.
Robertson, who is currently in Athens with Scotland in preparation for Thursday's Nations League play-off against Greece, responded to rumours about his future at a press conference: "We've been linked with basically every left-back in the world."
"That's the price of playing for one of the greatest clubs in the world. I look back on these eight years as Liverpool's starting left-back with great pride."
Despite facing external doubts, Robertson is still confident in himself: "Your time will always come, but I don't think it's my time now. Even if the team really introduces a new left-back, it doesn't matter. I always believe in myself."
"Of course, there were times this season where I didn't perform well, but some things were over-interpreted. I feel like my performances were still on point and it was a good season overall."
"I'm considered a solid player, so when you make a few mistakes, people start talking."
"But that's the reality of the Premier League, everyone is watching you and everyone has an opinion. That's normal, I have always been confident in my ability and I have proven that throughout my career, especially at Liverpool.
Robertson also revealed that joining the Scotland international training camp has made it easier for him to get over the Carabao Cup final defeat, which saw Liverpool lose to Newcastle at Wembley, just days after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.
"That's part of football. It might not have been our best week but luckily we've had a lot of good moments this season."
“For many reasons, the result last week wasn’t what we had hoped for. But it’s always an honour to meet up with my Scotland team-mates and it gives me a break from the intensity of Liverpool.
"This national team training camp was very good and it made it easier for me to get over the disappointment."
