Mavericks official: Irving has successfully undergone surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee

The Dallas Mavericks announced Wednesday that Kyrie Irving has successfully undergone surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

According to ESPN reporter Shams Charania, the surgery was performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, USA, by Dr. Riley Williams, director of sports medicine at HSS. Sports medicine expert Jeff Stotts then added that Irving only had a simple anterior cruciate ligament tear, and the meniscus and other knee joint structures were not damaged.

Irving, 32, has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets since 2011, and was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in February 2023. He has played in 50 games so far this season, averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, shooting 47.3% from the field and 40.1% from three-point range, and was selected to the All-Star Game for the ninth time in February.

However, Irving suffered a serious left knee dislocation in the first quarter of the game against the Sacramento Kings earlier this month. After an MRI, he was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and his season was ruled out early.

Since Irving's injury, the Mavericks have only achieved a record of 3 wins and 8 losses. They are currently ranked 11th in the Western Conference with 35 wins and 38 losses, and are still fighting for a playoff spot.
