LaMelo Ball will miss rest of season after undergoing ankle and wrist surgery


The Charlotte Hornets announced that guard LaMelo Ball will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season due to ankle and wrist injuries.  

 

LaMelo Ball will reportedly undergo arthroscopic surgery to treat a right ankle impingement. In addition, the guard will undergo minor surgery on his right wrist, which will keep him out of the game against the Toronto Raptors and the rest of the season.  

 

LaMelo Ball is expected to make a full recovery and complete all offseason training and resume full basketball activities in four to six weeks. The Charlotte Hornets will provide updates on LaMelo Ball's status as soon as possible.  

 

In this season, LaMelo Ball played 47 times and scored 25.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.1 steals. LaMelo Ball is one of the 10 players who averaged 25.0 points and 5.0 assists per game this year, and he scored 7.8 points in the fourth quarter.  

 

LaMelo Ball was originally selected by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 231 games over five seasons. LaMelo Ball was named the 2020-21 NBA Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-Star Game for the first time in the 2021-22 season.
