Russell Westbrook passes Oscar Robertson for eighth on assists list

Russell Westbrook surpassed Oscar Robertson in just one possession to become 8th on the assists list. He also surpassed Kobe Bryant to become 16th on the steals list.  

Russell Westbrook surpassed two NBA legends in just one possession as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Utah Jazz 129-93. He surpassed Oscar Robertson for 8th place on the all-time assists list and Kobe Bryant for 16th place on the all-time steals list.  

With 10 minutes and 44 seconds left in the second quarter, Russell Westbrook received a pass from Bryce Sensabaugh, which was his 1,945th career steal. Then, Russell Westbrook and Zeke Nagy dunked, which was his 9,888th career assist.  

This is actually not the first time that Russell Westbrook has surpassed Oscar Robertson in the important statistical rankings. On May 10, 2021, Russell Westbrook set his 182nd career triple-double, becoming the player with the most triple-doubles in NBA history, a record that stood for 47 years.  

Russell Westbrook continues to have an outstanding performance in statistics in his 17th season in the NBA. Russell Westbrook mainly plays as a substitute, averaging 13.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game in his first season with the Denver Nuggets.
