Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the former Chelsea midfielder who currently plays for AC Milan, went to the hospital for surgery on Sunday due to a sudden acute appendicitis abscess. His appendix has now been successfully removed. Before the surgery, he was originally selected for AC Milan's Serie A match against Napoli and arrived in Naples with the team, but he suddenly felt severe abdominal pain while in the hotel and was subsequently rushed to the hospital.
According to Italian Sky Sports, the 29-year-old England midfielder is expected to miss at least a month due to surgery. He will stay in the hospital in Naples for observation for the next two days, and if everything goes well, he will return to Milan to continue rehabilitation.
AC Milan officially issued a statement saying: "Ruben Loftus-Cheek underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy today due to acute appendicitis abscess. The operation was performed by Professor Francesco Corcione and his team and the process went very smoothly."
This season has been tough for Loftus-Cheek, who was sidelined from December to March due to an adductor injury and a subsequent muscle problem. He was expected to start for the first time since November against Napoli, but a sudden illness once again kept him out of the game.
Loftus-Cheek joined AC Milan from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 after being loaned to Crystal Palace and Fulham. He has played 10 games for the England national team.
