Postecoglou praised Spurs' performance in the first half

Tottenham Hotspur beat Southampton 3-1, with manager Angel Postecoglou praising his players for their performance in the first half but said they needed to improve in the second half.

In the first half of the game, Brennan Johnson scored twice to help Tottenham lead 2-0. However, in the 90th minute of the second half, Matus Fernandez scored and Southampton pulled one point back. In the final stoppage time, Matisse Tell scored to seal the victory.

In the press conference after the game, Postecoglu talked about the players' performance and said: "The first half was very good and showed our level. We were very disciplined and well organized on the defensive end. The opponent had almost no chances."

"We looked dangerous offensively, scoring two goals and having one disallowed, with Aaron Ramsdale making some great saves. I'm very happy with the performance in that period."

"But we didn't continue that form in the second half. The team started to become passive on defense, and there were a lot of errors in ball control and passing on offense. Our ball control became loose and our passing was not accurate enough. These aspects need to be improved."

Postecoglu praised Johnson for his outstanding performance, saying: "Brennan played very well today. He has always been a threatening player, especially in the first half, his role was particularly crucial."

Tottenham currently has 37 points in the Premier League and is ranked 14th. Tottenham's next game will be on April 11, when they host Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final.
