Maresca says he won't let 18-year-old Acampong take on too much responsibility due to injury crisis

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has made it clear that despite the 18-year-old's impressive performance in recent games, he will not risk giving the teenager too much responsibility as the team's defence has been plagued by serious injuries, so as not to affect his growth and development.
Currently, Chelsea's main central defender Wesley Fofana may miss until next season due to injury, and the most experienced substitute Benoit Badiaciele will not be able to return until at least February next year.
The club is currently linked with a transfer move for Crystal Palace's Mark Guehi, while Chelsea also have the opportunity to recall Trevoh Chalobah, who is on loan at Crystal Palace, early to deal with the defensive crisis.
The 18-year-old was given a chance to start after resolving a contract dispute with the club, having been banned from playing by the club due to a contract issue.
Acheampong performed steadily in the match in South London and he also impressed in his previous appearances in the Europa League.
Maresca said of Acampong: "He is ready. We played him against Crystal Palace because we thought he had the quality. His performance showed how good he is.
"Before, due to his personal contract problems, we did not use him. When all the problems were resolved, we started to use him, and he proved himself with his performance."
"But it's not appropriate to rely on an 18-year-old for the whole season. He needs to be on the right path in his development, and that path could be tomorrow's game or next Tuesday's game."
“However, as long as he continues to develop in the right way, he will definitely be a key player for Chelsea for many years to come.”
