Everton manager David Moyes accepted his side's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa and stressed more work is needed as he looks to drive the club forward.
David Moyes praised the effort and fight of Everton's side against Aston Villa, which were beaten by Ollie Watkins' 51st-minute winner, but admitted that improving the attacking quality was important to improve the team's results.
David Moyes said: "We are not happy about losing, but it is a fact. We didn't have as many clear-cut chances as our opponents, but we also had opportunities. I think Jesper had a great chance to score with a header and Dominic also had a chance to score at the end."
"If we had scored a goal, I don't think anyone would have said we didn't deserve to at least draw, but I'm well aware of the situation at the club at the moment. We need some quality and I don't think we were as good as we should have been in possession of the ball.
"We didn't get the key passes in time to put us in control or create chances for us. I thought we had two or three really good crosses and I'm happy with that, but I know exactly what I got.
"We were always in the game, we never quit. Obviously the fans want to see how we can score more goals, where we get them from. But I'm not a magician, what I can do is try to find ways to score goals. We tried to encourage the players to go forward more, to try to pass the ball well and to score in the right positions."
David Moyes also said: "It's not because we don't want to work hard, maybe we are not good enough in some aspects, which may allow us to create more scoring opportunities."
“Finally, I want to thank the Everton fans for their welcome. I am proud to be back here and it is an honour to be joining. I hope we will have the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company in the coming years, but I will keep my head down for now and work hard to do my job and show the fans a better Everton.”
