CaptainFlowers calls on Riot Games to completely ban all third-party assistive software with in-game overlay functions

Clayton "CaptainFlowers" Raines, a well-known American English commentator of League of Legends, recently publicly called on Riot Games to completely ban all third-party auxiliary software with in-game overlay functions. He believes that these tools undermine the competitive fairness of the game and should be completely removed.

This statement came after Riot Games' latest adjustment. Riot Games previously announced that third-party applications would be prohibited from displaying ads on the loading screen, client, and in-game of League of Legends. CaptainFlowers took this opportunity to further speak out and demanded a complete ban on such software: "Please just kill all in-game overlay functions."

“Tracking summoner spells, ultimates, and jungle resource refresh times is part of a player’s skill set. If these features are not officially incorporated into in-game tools, they should not be allowed to exist in a third-party form.”

Currently, many third-party auxiliary software on the market will add time prompts to the game interface, and even mark the refresh countdown of wild area resources on the minimap. These features are quite popular among players, but also controversial.

As CaptainFlowers points out, many players feel that these types of tools provide a "non-technical" advantage in ranked play, which is detrimental to maintaining the pure competitive nature of the game.

In fact, Riot Games responded as early as March this year. At that time, Drew Levin, product manager of "League of Legends", said that the company had asked third-party applications to remove the enemy's ultimate cooldown tracking function, believing that this data varies due to different hero skills and equipment and should not be obtained through third parties.

However, the refresh times of summoner skills and jungle resources are still allowed to be tracked, because they have fixed cooldowns and can theoretically be recorded manually by players.

It is worth mentioning that League of Legends has built-in a number of tracking tools in recent years. For example, the refresh time of dragons, barons and blue buffs can be clearly displayed on the minimap. And through the "Skill Ping" system, teammates can quickly communicate whether the opponent has used key skills.

In the past, players could only rely on typing to record the opponent's skill consumption time and manually calculate the cooldown. Now the convenience of the game has been significantly improved.
