Juventus signs 21-year-old Portuguese defender Alberto Costa for a maximum transfer fee of 16.3 million euros

Juventus officially announced on Wednesday that they have completed the first signing of the 2024/25 winter window. They signed 21-year-old Portuguese right-back Alberto Costa from Guimaraes with a contract until June 30, 2029.

According to the official statement, the transaction amount is 12.5 million euros plus 1.3 million floating. The transfer fee will be paid within the next four fiscal years, and there is a performance-linked bonus of up to 2.5 million euros.

Fabrizio Romano pointed out that Guimarães retained 5% of Alberto Costa's secondary transfer share.

Alberto Costa joined Guimarães youth training at the age of 10 and made his debut for the first team in the Portuguese Cup on January 11, 2024. So far, he has made 23 appearances in Guimarães, scoring 1 goal and providing 3 assists.

Despite limited playing time, Alberto Costa has attracted the attention of many clubs, including Roma, AC Milan, Sporting Lisbon, Benfica, Porto, etc. Brighton even made an offer to Guimarães, but the player explicitly rejected it on the grounds that he was not qualified for European competitions.

For Juventus, Alberto Costa's joining will fill the gap left by Grayson Bremer and Juan Cabal due to injury, while reducing the burden on Nicolo Savona. They said in a statement: "Despite his young age, Alberto Costa has become a solid support for Juventus with his talent, determination and rich experience."

"His ability to read defensive situations, his excellent positional awareness and his willingness to push forward make him an ideal fit for the Juventus project."

Alberto Costa will wear the No. 2 jersey at Juventus.
