Venice extends 22-year-old midfielder Mikael Elertsson's contract by one year until June 2028


Venice released a statement on Monday confirming that it has completed the contract extension with Mikael Elertsson. The new contract will extend the original contract by one year until June 30, 2028.


The 22-year-old Mikael Elertsson was born in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, and officially started his professional career in his hometown team Fram in 2018. In July 2022, he transferred from Spartak to Iceland for 1 million euros. He joined Spezia and made his Serie A debut on August 14 of the same year.


In January 2023, Elertsson joined Venice from Spezia for 1.5 million euros. He mainly played as a central midfielder and right back in Venice. So far, he has made 75 appearances, contributed 6 goals and 7 assists. Last season, he helped the team Promoted to Serie A. Since the start of this season, Elertsson has played 20 games for Venice as the core of the midfield, contributing 2 goals and 1 assist.


As for the national team, Elertsson has played 19 times for Iceland since 2021, including the 2022 and 2024 UEFA Nations League. He scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist for Iceland.
