In the 7th round of the 2024-25 Europa League group stage, Tottenham defeated Hoffenheim 3-2, and coach Angel Postecoglou praised the players' performance.
James Maddison's goal and Son Heung-min's double helped Tottenham win the game. In the press conference after the game, Postecoglou said about Son Heung-min's performance: "I think he really stood up today, and we really need him to do so."
"Some of our players have just recovered from injuries. In this case, it is easy to fall into a passive situation in an away game in Europe. But I think Son Heung-min led the team forward with his football skills and actions tonight."
"Look at the situation right now, we are all under the criticism from the outside world. It's inevitable. As football players and coaches, we are all in the spotlight. Whether the criticism is justified or not, you have to stand up and respond in the right way. I think he did that tonight."
Tottenham sent out five young players in the match, and Postecoglou was not stingy in praising them, saying: "Don't forget, we sent out five young players tonight. This is a Premier League team, and such a scene is almost unheard of in away games in Europe."
"It was a fantastic performance from the players and they deserve full credit. Winning away from home in Europe is always difficult, no matter what situation you're in, but even more so in the situation we were in. It was an incredible effort."
"The experienced players showed great leadership and we really needed them to step up today. I thought Maddison, Son, Rodrygo and Bennie played really well."
"We ended up with five teenagers, it was Brandon's first European match and only the second in his career. I don't think we can take the European victory for granted, it was a really great effort and showed great willpower from the players. They really deserve all the praise today."
