Bayer Leverkusen announced on its official website on Tuesday that Real Madrid's Spain international right-wing back Lucas Vázquez has joined the club on a free transfer after his contract had expired.
According to Bayer Leverkusen's official statement, Vázquez has signed on a short-term two-year deal which will only run until the summer of 2027. He will also wear the number 21 jersey, which was vacated by Morocco international winger Amine Adli after his summer move to Bournemouth.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports' resident renowned German transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg had also refuted rumours which claimed that Vázquez was in talks with Lazio, Fenerbahçe, Inter Miami, and Al-Nassr prior to this.
After completing his transfer procedures, Vázquez, who was interviewed by the Bayer Leverkusen official website for the first time, said, "I've heard a lot about this club from Xabi Alonso and my long-term Madrid teammate Dani Carvajal, and I'm looking forward to continuing my career in the Bundesliga."
"My discussions with the management confirmed what I had heard: Bayer Leverkusen is absolutely focused on winning, hungry, and aiming for the biggest possible goal. This mentality aligns with my own, and I look forward to further success at Leverkusen."
