Vitor Pereira said the team had tried their best but regretted not taking advantage of the chances in front of goal

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira believes his side should have taken more from their defeat to Arsenal and was left wanting for failing to take advantage of chances in front of goal.

Wolves failed to capitalise on their advantage after Arsenal's Miles Lewis-Skelly was sent off before half-time, with Arsenal on target just four minutes into the game when Joao Gomes was sent off for a second yellow card.

However, Pereira believes that with the players' focus and tactical intelligence, they can still do well enough to at least get a point in the game. "At the end of the game, we lost a big chance to win the game because, in my opinion, we played a very good game," Pereira said.

"We tried everything to win, tactically, with commitment and energy, but what we lacked was the goal. We had two chances before they scored, and after Joao Gomes got the yellow card, they scored a goal and we didn't."

"It was a game where we went head to head with Arsenal and we knew what kind of squad they had. We went toe to toe, we went out there and tried to play our game and create chances. The result of this game doesn't reflect what happened on the pitch, but that's football."

Joao Gomes was frustrated about being sent off. Vitor Pereira said: "Yes, Joao Gomes has given a lot for us. He gives his all in every game. We have talked many times. He is very calm. Don't worry, because he knows that this is football."

"Our biggest problem right now is to solve the midfield problem. We need a solution and we need more players who are capable of playing two-man in the midfield. In the next few days, we must bring in a midfielder."

"Against Arsenal, I could feel him pressing us a little bit more. But the moment Joao Gomes got the second yellow card, we attacked from attacking midfield and we created chances to score.

"It was a crucial moment and we got the yellow card, but that's football. We learn from our experiences and I'm sure Joao Gomes will learn his lesson. Despite this, Joao Gomes is a player I will never criticise because he is 100 per cent committed to the team every time."
