LaMelo Ball exits game against Los Angeles Lakers with ankle injury

LaMelo Ball, a guard currently playing for the Charlotte Hornets, stepped on Jared Vanderbilt's foot while running backwards against the Los Angeles Lakers, injuring his left ankle and leaving the game in the second quarter.

LaMelo Ball did not return, and the team eventually lost 112-107. LaMelo Ball had just made a three-pointer on one foot and was running backwards toward the court when he stepped on Jared Vanderbilt's foot and fell backward, hitting his head hard on the floor.

LaMelo Ball then stood up, committed an intentional foul to stop the clock, and limped to the locker room under his own power. It was supposed to be a night of celebration for the Charlotte Hornets because it was the first time the game was broadcast on free local over-the-air television in North Carolina since the 2007-08 season.

LaMelo Ball has had a history of ankle injuries since joining the Charlotte Hornets. During this season, LaMelo Ball has been wearing a brace to protect his ankle. After the game, Charlotte Hornets coach Charles Lee said he is not sure about LaMelo Ball's future status or how long he may be absent.
