Wirtz finally scored in the Premier League: I always believed I would score someday.

Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in a key match of the 18th round of the 2025/26 Premier League season, thanks to goals from Hrafinbech and Wirtz. Wirtz, who scored his first Premier League goal, said he had always believed he would score someday and was happy with the Reds' excellent performance.

Chiesa orchestrated an attack in the 41st minute, with Frimpong dribbling into the penalty area and passing back to Hrafinberg, who slotted home to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead. In the 12th minute, Ekitic delivered a diagonal pass into the box, where Wirtz met it and fired a low shot into the net, extending Liverpool's lead over Wolves to 2-0.

It's worth mentioning that this was Wirtz's first goal since joining Liverpool this season.

Liverpool midfielder Wirtz, 22, said, "It felt amazing to score, with fans all around me. I was really happy and enjoyed the moment. I always believed I would score someday, and I was hoping to start scoring and assisting sooner, but that's how it is. I have to accept it, but I always knew in my heart that this moment would come, so I just keep working hard and persevering."

“I think we played exceptionally well in the first half, winning the ball back immediately every time we lost possession. Everyone worked very hard, but in the last 20 to 25 minutes of the second half, we made the game more difficult. To be honest, I can't explain why. We need to discuss this issue in training because it's something we must change.”

In addition, Liverpool will host Leeds United in the next round of the league.

Regarding the team's recent performance and position in the standings, Wirtz said, "This is exactly the performance we want, we want to be in this position, and we want to be at the top of the standings."
