Africa Cup of Nations – Osimhen scores and assists as Nigeria defeats Algeria 2-0 to advance to the semifinals.


In the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria easily defeated Algeria 2-0 at the Marrakech Stadium. They will face hosts Morocco in the semi-finals for a place in the final.


In the match against Algeria, Nigeria dominated from the start. In the 2nd minute, Bruno Onemeć took a free kick from the left flank, and Semi Ajay's header went just over the bar. In the 8th minute, Ademola Lookman's corner kick from the right was headed over the bar by Victor Osimhen inside the penalty area.


In the 23rd minute, Al Adams delivered a through ball down the left flank, and Lookman broke into the penalty area before unleashing a shot that was saved by Luca Zidane. In the 37th minute, Alex Iwobi's long pass from midfield found Adams making a run forward, but Adams' chip shot went over the crossbar.


Just two minutes into the second half, Nigeria finally broke the deadlock: Onyemeich delivered a long cross from the left wing, and Osimhen headed it in at the far post to open the scoring. In the 54th minute, Onyemeich and Osimhen tried to repeat the tactic, but Luca Zidane made a diving save. In the 57th minute, Osimhen broke into the penalty area and selflessly passed the ball across, assisting Adams to tap it into an empty net. With Adams adding another goal, the score was extended to 2-0.


In the 81st minute, Osimhen crossed from the right side of the penalty area, and Adams' header hit the left post. Neither side managed to score again, and Nigeria ultimately won by two goals.
