Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accomplished a milestone during the Oklahoma City Thunder's away game against the Houston Rockets.
Although the Oklahoma City Thunder lost 111-125, Alexander made one of two free throws in the third stage of the game, pushing his personal score to 20 points, thus completing the feat of scoring 20+ points in 70 consecutive games.
This number not only broke Alexander's personal record for the most consecutive points, but also surpassed Michael Jordan's record of 69 consecutive 20+ scoring games set in the 1990-91 season, officially ranking fourth in the NBA's single-season consecutive 20+ scoring list.
Alexander's crazy performance began on November 1, 2023, when he scored 30 points against the Portland Trail Blazers. Since then, Alexander has maintained his form, and no matter how stalemate the situation on the court is, Alexander can always steadily deliver at least 20 points.
Looking at the history of the NBA, there are only a handful of players who can complete such a streak. The ones ahead of Alexander are Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson. Chamberlain scored at least 20 points in 80 consecutive games in the 1961-62 season and the 1963-64 season, ranking first and second. However, Robertson, who ranked third, scored 76 consecutive games in 1963-64.
Now, Alexander's name has officially been listed alongside these legends, becoming the first player since the 1960s to score 20+ in 70 consecutive games. This stable output puts Alexander in a favorable position in this season's MVP competition.
