In the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Tottenham suffered a bloodbath at Liverpool 4-0 and unfortunately missed the Wembley final on March 16. Despite leading 1-0 in the first leg, they had no chance to fight back at Anfield and failed to complete a single shot on target, missing the chance to compete with Newcastle for the championship.
After the game, Sky Sports commentator and former England international Jamie Redknapp was merciless about Tottenham's poor performance, calling it "disastrous" and "shocking."
Former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp said: "I have never seen a team eliminated like Tottenham today without any fighting spirit in my life."
"In the second leg of a semi-final that could decide the fate of the team, there was not even a single shot on target? This is incredible."
"I feel sorry for these players. Spence played almost 14 different positions tonight. I've never seen anything like this. Young players need protection, but youngsters like Archie Gray and Berryval can only do their best."
"But what I want to see more is experienced players stepping up to lead the team and drive the tempo of the game. But did they do that? Not at all."
"Tottenham have had a few low points this season - losing to Crystal Palace, Ipswich and Everton. But look at the scoreline today? It's a disaster.
In the post-match press conference, facing Redknapp's criticism, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou responded: "Why are you asking me? Ask Jamie, he said it."
"I know people on TV need to give their opinions and that's their job. My job is to run this club. What other people think or see is meaningless to me."
"I don't care about it and it doesn't affect me. I don't care, I don't worry, and I don't care."
