South American Counter Strike 2 (CS2) e-sports tournament organizer FiReLEAGUE, officially announced on Thursday that they will be hosting the Buenos Aires Major in Argentina in 2027.
According to FiReLEAGUE's official statement, the tournament is tentatively scheduled to take place from May 31st to June 20th, 2027. More details regarding ticketing, streaming, format, and participating teams will be announced later.
This will be the first time that Argentina will be hosting a major e-sports tournament, making the South American nation, known globally for its football passion, the 14th country to host a CS2 Major.
FiReLEAGUE has previously dabbled in international tournaments, but organizing a Major is undoubtedly a significant challenge for the organizer.
Regarding the decision to hold the Major in Argentina, an official FiReLEAGUE spokesperson told Dust 2, "In this country known worldwide for Leo Messi and Diego Maradona, the passion for Counter Strike 2 is no less than their love for football. Therefore, we felt it was necessary to demonstrate their enthusiasm for this esports title to the world."
In the past three years, FiReLEAGUE has hosted two global tournaments, with a maximum of only eight participating teams. Starting with the StarLadder Budapest Major, this Valve-backed tournament will feature 32 teams, eight more than the previous BLAST.tv Austin Major.
Last year, FiReLEAGUE hosted a famous tournament in the subway. Imperial ultimately defeated 9z to win the championship and a $50,000 prize.
