Graham Potter believes the squad is in a learning phase and needs to find solutions moving forward

West Ham United manager Graham Potter analysed his team's standings following their 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

West Ham were missing several senior players before the game, including captain Jarrod Bowen, Mikael Antonio, Crescencio Somerville, Niklas Fulkrug and Jean-Clair Todibo, while Dinos Mavropanos was sent off with 10 minutes to go.

Under such circumstances, Graham Potter had to call up 18-year-old football academy rookies Ollie Scales and Lewis Orford. In an interview, Graham Potter said that the team still needs to learn.

Graham Potter said: "I think we are at a stage where we need to learn, we need to help the team, we need to find solutions moving forward. I am not very happy with the team's performance against Crystal Palace and disappointed with the result. Because I don't think we deserve to get anything from the game."

"Nevertheless, we have to accept that, we need to work on doing better, we need to find a way to get better. That's where the process is and that's what we need to do."

"We weren't able to sustain the offense as well as we would have liked, and they were probably better at that than we were. We were a little behind on second balls and knockdowns and things like that, and they seemed to be a little quicker than we were. So, we realized how to help our offensive guys and not have them do as much on defense."

"Carlos Soler had a little problem with his hamstring this week so we were worried about him from the start. We tried to manage everything, tried to find the balance but at the end our performance was not good enough. I think when you come on as a substitute we react and are more proactive."

"In contrast, it's good to have the young players playing and I think they're doing well. They've been doing well since we've been here. We need that enthusiasm, that personality, because we need to get the fans behind us and get them involved in the game. We didn't do that at the beginning, which is really disappointing and we need to keep working on it."

The first goal of the game was a game changer. Palace used Jean-Philippe Mateta well and passed the ball to Ebereki Eze. We were in control of the situation well in the first half, but we didn't put enough pressure on them, so we were struggling to find the balance.

Graham Potter also said: "I have no complaints about the players' performance. It's just a difficult week. I think we have to unite and think about how to do better, find solutions and how to move forward. Although we are disappointed, we need to start working again."
