After a long period of speculation and waiting, Valve has finally broken its silence and officially confirmed for the first time that a Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) version of the classic map Cache is in full swing of production.
Since Valve officially acquired Cache from its original creator FMPONE last year, discussions within the community about when this legendary map would return have never ceased. Although the development team had previously hinted at plans to port the map, they had never given a definitive official answer.
Recently, with the release of the Premier Season 4 update for CS2, community calls for its release have surged again. In response to this, the well-known esports club NAVI directly questioned Valve on social media, asking why the highly anticipated Cache has still not appeared.
This time, Valve didn't shy away from the question, but instead gave a frank and encouraging response: "Currently in development." This not only officially confirmed the development status of Cache for the first time, but also reassured all players who were looking forward to the map.
Later, in an interaction with renowned streamer Cooper, Valve further illustrated the current development progress and philosophy with a vivid metaphor. The official statement read: "Of all things, Cache is absolutely not worth microwaving."
This means that Valve refuses to rush out a poorly made, quick-fix version just to meet deadlines. Instead, they are willing to invest the necessary time, like slowly cooking a fine meal, to fully polish the map's details, lighting, and competitive balance.
While this means players will have to endure a longer wait, it's undoubtedly a positive sign. It indicates that the future CS2 version of Cache will not be a simple port, but a high-quality remake.
