German esports club FOKUS announced on Thursday that it is officially entering the CS2 arena. They have assembled an international team with both immediate and potential strength, led by former VP and ENCE coach Jakob Gurchinski (ID: kuben).
The current leader of FOKUS's roster is former GamerLegion in-game leader Eric Gustafsson (ID: ztr), who will form the core of the team alongside former teammate Sebastian Maroš (ID: volt). 17-year-old Bulgarian sniper Georgy Mitjev (ID: Jorko) is the future cornerstone of FOKUS, ranking 29th in HLTV's latest list of promising rookies.
The lineup also includes former CPH Wolves rifler Matteo Prishlin (ID: Matheos) who once fought alongside Jorko, and Finnish rifler Matthias Kivisto (ID: Banjo) who recently played for Fire Flux.
Kuben's return to coaching after nearly 18 months of inactivity marks his return to the helm at FOKUS. Since being demoted by ENCE in August 2024, he has been looking for a suitable opportunity to make a comeback.
Regarding this appointment, kuben told HLTV: "During this time, I have been quietly waiting for the right opportunity to return to the coaching bench. The experience of being demoted by a second-tier team seemed to have made some executives question my abilities. Fortunately, some teams were willing to conduct in-depth research and invited me for a meeting, after which they truly understood the philosophy I held when taking over or building a team. FOKUS is a perfect example—they have been preparing to enter the CS2 arena for a long time. After several hours of communication, we decided to work together."
Kuben then explained his team-building strategy: "I have full confidence in the current roster. We interviewed many players. Once we decided to go international, we developed a comprehensive roster-building plan to create a well-rounded team that includes veterans with experience in major tournaments and tournaments, as well as high-potential rookies who have yet to gain professional experience."
According to the schedule, FOKUS's new lineup is expected to make its in-person debut at the Urban Riga Open Season 3, held from March 23rd to 24th. Details are as follows:
Conductor: Eric Gustafsson (ID: ztr)
Rifleman: Sebastian Maroš (ID: volt)
Sniper: Georgy Mitjev (ID: Jorko)
Rifleman: Matteo Prishlin (ID: Matheos)
Rifleman: Matthias Quivisto (ID: Banjo)
Coach: Yakub Gurchinsky (ID: kuben)
