Defending champions Bayern Munich will travel to face St. Pauli in a crucial Bundesliga match of Round 29. Kompany stated that England captain Kane played with pain during the previous match against Real Madrid, but is now fit and healthy.
Thanks to goals from Tom Büssov and Lennart Karl, Bayern Munich defeated Freiburg 3-2 in the last round of the Bundesliga. With two consecutive wins, Bayern Munich currently sits atop the league table with 73 points, nine points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund. This means Bayern Munich must secure another three points to maintain their lead at the top of the table.
In addition, in the earlier Champions League quarter-final first leg, Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabéu Stadium after goals from Diaz and Kane, who returned to the starting lineup.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said, "Kane felt good after the game against Real Madrid. He did play through the pain, but the most important thing is that he had no adverse reactions the next day."
"Looking back on this season, the reason we've gotten this far is because the whole team has been involved. If we make one or two adjustments, it's just something we've been doing all season. If it were November or October, people might have questioned whether it was appropriate. But at this stage, that question is no longer necessary."
Kompany said, "The competition within the team is very fierce, which I'm familiar with from my playing career, and I'm happy to see us continue to improve. As for who will play, I don't know yet, but I'll consider it carefully."
On the other hand, Bayern Munich won 3-1 against St. Pauli in the first leg of the season. St. Pauli currently sits in 16th place with 25 points, just 4 points above the relegation zone.
Kompany continued, "We have great respect for St. Pauli. If you watch their recent games, you'll see that every single one has been incredibly difficult. Their defense is very compact, and sometimes it's hard to understand why they're in that position. They're not that far behind the teams five or six places above them in the standings. But for us, getting three points is the most important thing."
“Our goal has always been to perform at our best, but ‘best’ is not easy, because we had a 16-game winning streak this season. That’s our benchmark, and we hope to reach that level again in the final stages of the season.”
