Arsenal, nicknamed "The Gunners," failed to score in either half of their Champions League quarter-final second leg match, ultimately defeating Sporting Lisbon 1-0 on aggregate to advance to the semi-finals. Mikel Arteta stated that the team should not take their achievements for granted and that there is still room for improvement in all aspects of their performance.
In the 63rd minute of the second half, Maduk was fouled and injured during an attack, and was substituted by Max Daumann. Ultimately, Arsenal drew 0-0 with Sporting CP at home.
Having secured their place in the semi-finals, Arsenal will travel to Madrid for the first leg of their match against Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said, "This is a great day, and I am incredibly proud of everyone at the club. I also want to thank our fans for their unwavering support. This is the first time in 140 years that we have reached the semi-finals for two consecutive years, which speaks volumes about the difficulty and significance of our achievement."
"Perhaps we don't really realize this yet, but we will in a few years, so don't take it for granted. This is an extremely difficult achievement, and we have never done it before, so I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the players and everyone who has worked hard for it."
Arteta pointed out, "We are not perfect, and we hope to continue to improve in all aspects, but the upcoming matches against Atletico Madrid will be two fantastic nights, and we will definitely be fully prepared for them."
“We will learn from our match last October and their recent games, but when we go to Madrid we need to be ourselves and compete the way we always have, and then we will have a great chance.”
Reflecting on the draw against Sporting Lisbon, Arteta said, "That's the Champions League; details matter. When we had the advantage and a chance to close out the game, we didn't. The game was always open, but we controlled it well, especially in the second half. We barely gave them any shots, except for the last throw-in, so our overall defense was very solid."
"It's certain that we still need to improve in some areas, and we also need some players to return to achieve that. But overall, it was a very good day."
