Wen Banyama will miss the rest of the 2024-2025 season due to blood clots

The San Antonio Spurs officially announced that the team's new star Victor Wenbanyama will miss the rest of the 2024-2025 season due to blood clots. The news was announced on Thursday, February 20, shocking the Spurs and the entire NBA.

The Spurs said Wen Banyama was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. He returned to San Antonio for examination after the NBA All-Star Game and was finally diagnosed. Sources revealed that he had felt unwell before and after the All-Star Game, but thought that he would be relieved after a short rest. However, the symptoms persisted and he was finally examined and diagnosed with blood clots.

Despite the severity of the situation, Spurs insiders told ESPN that they are optimistic that Wenban Yama will be able to fully recover before the start of the 2025-2026 season.

Spurs point guard Chris Paul said in an interview: "It's hard to accept. Not only is it sad for our entire team, but more importantly, what he means to this sport and how much he loves the game, we can all feel it."

As last year's NBA Rookie of the Year, Wenban Yama made his first All-Star appearance this season. He averaged 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.8 blocks in 46 games, making him a hot candidate for Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY). However, due to the new NBA rule requiring players to play at least 65 games to participate in the season award selection, Wenban Yama will lose the qualification to compete for DPOY and other personal honors.
