About Nico Hidalgo


Hidalgo was born in Motril, Spain on April 30, 1992. He was 1.78 meters tall and primarily played as a right wingback. He can also play as a right midfielder, right winger, center midfielder or defensive midfielder.


Hidalgo joined the youth academy of his hometown club Motril since he was a child, and completed his Motril first-team debut in September 2010.


After leaving the club when his contract had expired in July 2012, Hidalgo joined Granada as a free agent and played for its B team. During this spell, he attracted the attention of Juventus with his outstanding performances.


In August 2014, Hidalgo officially joined Juventus for €1.5 million, but was immediately loaned back to Granada for 2 years.


In July 2016, Hidalgo was loaned-out to Cadiz, and in March of the following year, his ownership was bought out by the club due to his outstanding performances.


In August 2018, Hidalgo was loaned-out to Real Racing Club de Santander, during which he won the Spanish Segunda División B promotion play-offs with the club.

In August 2020, Hidalgo joined Extremadura as a free agent.


Since March of the following year, Hidalgo has been absent for a long time due to illness. In January 2022, he was forced to retire early due to the unfortunate diagnosis of lung cancer.


At that time, in order to encourage him to actively overcome the disease, Granada even specially held a special memorial ceremony for Hidalgo at its home stadium, the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes, before the start of their pre-season friendly match against Malaga in August 2022.


During his four-year spell at Granada, Hidalgo played 96 times for the Spanish Segunda División club in all competitions and scored 11 goals.
